Andhra Andhagadu Shobhan babu affectionatly called by his fans in Tollywood, was born on January 14, 1937 as Uppu Sobhana Chalapathi Rao in a middle-class family,He finished his Intermediate in Vijayawada and did his degree at Andhra-Christian College in Guntur and studied law in Chennai but discontinued.
Shobhan babu entered into film industry with his first film Daivabalam as supporting actor. After that he acted in Veerabhimanyu (1965) as a lead role was a big hit. Then a string of movies entered into his film career, and there was no looking back for him.
Film Manushulu Maarali, was a huge success was a record at that time. Shobhan babu performed a dual role for the first time in Potti Pleader.
During his days Shobhan babu arised as stylish star of his days, a single strand of hair curled down on his forehead was his trademark style.Sobhanbabu and Sarada were hit pair of all times as they paired in several films. He acted in films that suits his age all the time.
Shobhan babu acted in many films as a side actor and then as a hero with actresses like Vanisree, Jayaprada, Jayasudha, Sridevi, Aamani, Soundarya and many more.
His successive hits including Veerabhimanyu, Manushulu Marali, Kalyana Mandapam, and Tahsildhargaari Ammaayi, which earned Shobhan babu a large female fan base with young girls and among married woman for over 20 years.
Shobhan babu married to Kanta Kumari on May 15, 1958 and they have a son Karuna Seshu and three daughters Mrudula, Prashanti and Nivedita. After his retirement he invested all his earnings in real estate business and led a peaceful life with a complete happy family.
Sobhan Babu passed away on March 20, 2008 due to a heart attack at the age of 71.
He won three consecutive Film fare awards after Hindi actor Dilip Kumar for movies Khaidi Babayi, 1975 for Jeevana Jyothi, and 1976 for Soggadu, this was a record for the Telugu film industry.
Shobhan babu was honored with several Nandi Awards by the state of Andhra Pradesh. He was given the honorific “Natabooshana”, which became his last name in movie credits
